3 Love Stories

“Thrush” by Gabriel Bisset-Smith won best narrative at the Vimeo awards. A short film about a man who obsesses over his ex girlfriend. The entire relationship is told through photos in four minutes.

“How You May Fall For A Girl On Facebook” is one of many great animated films in the series Tales of Mere Existence .

“Forever’s Not So Long” won numerous awards in 2009. This 11 minute film is a powerful look at love and mortality.

Best Questions For A First Date

OkCupid just posted a new blog about the best questions to ask on a first date. OkCupid has a lot of data at their disposal and they do a great job at making statistics interesting. Below is a list of those questions, without the statistical explanations:

  • Do you like the taste of beer?

No matter their gender or orientation, beer-lovers are 60% more likely to be okay with sleeping with someone they’ve just met?

  • Do you like horror movies?
  • Have you ever traveled around another country alone?
  • Wouldn’t it be fun to chuck it all and go live on a sailboat?

Of all questions appropriate to a first date, the three listed above were the ones couples most often agreed on.

  • Do you prefer the people in your life to be simple or complex?

  • Do spelling and grammar mistakes annoy you?

If your date answers ‘no’—i.e. is okay with bad grammar and spelling—the odds of him or her being at least moderately religious is slightly better than 2:1.

OkCupid has a lot of other interesting blog posts using the data that it collects from users. Even if you’re not looking for love they are always a good read.
